FAQ

Common ground is the cornerstone to resolving all human conflicts;

Common ground is not a compromise or one side wins/one side loses, it is much greater than that;

Common ground is discovered through a collaborative co-creative process, generating a new vision that is larger than anyone’s single vision.

CGN originated from two dissimilar people, under an umbrella. Their OWN getting together, across the culture, profession, ethnicity, is the beginning, of the CGN idea.

Collect the stories of CG-seeking champions:

–          Distill their CG-sealing generalizable lessons/methodology/pearls, organize the them, and help communicate them to the rest of the world;

–          Connect CG organizations and their activities from around the world.

No, though its two founders are Christians, and the idea of trying to bring people together across the society’s spectrum is inspired by their Christian faith.

It exists to encourage people to learn more from each other, to learn HOW to find more common ground, in whatever polarizing issues that they are facing.

By being able to find more common ground, we hope that more effective SOLUTIONS can be found, about the PROBLEMs that we are facing in the society today.

Yes, most definitely. Most modern society’s forces today (media, politics, special interest groups, the commercial benefit of power and influence) are indeed pulling us apart, polarizing our society to a degree that has never been seen before in human society. Polarization stagnants the society, while depolarization and coming together to find solutions moves our society forward.

No, CGN will gather methodologies from CG-seeking visionaries who are dealing with ALL major human conflicts (atheism/faith, socialism/capitalism, East/West, left/right, among various religions, etc).

Dr. Wang is a physician, who has devoted his entire life, to treat human eye diseases and restore sight to the blind. Polarization is a human mental disease, it needs a prescription.

Dr. Broocks is a theologian, who has devoted his entire life, to communicate with people across a wide spectrum of the society and from all corners of the world.

The body of work itself, by these two CGN founders, represents the essence of the CGN work, i.e., bringing people together, to dialog, to try to find solutions.

Long-range: collect winning methodologies from CG-seeking visionaries, and help communicate these pearls, to the rest of the world.

Short-range: form CGN, and start the learning process, from CG-seeking visionaries, distill their pearls, and then write a CGN book (containing key CG-seeking methodologies).

Dr. Wang: president and treasurer;

Dr. Broocks: executive director and secretary.

Dr. Wang: Harvard & MIT (MD); PhD (laser physics)

Dr. Brocks: A doctorate degree from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Dr. Wang: cataract and LASIK surgeon, running a world-class laser eye center (Wang Vision Institute)

Dr. Broocks: works for Every Nations as an ambassador. He is a co-founder of Every Nation which has ministries in 80 nations.

Dr. Wang is married to Anle, and he has a son.

Dr. Broocks is married to Jody, and they have 5 children (2 daughters, 3 sons).

They are all living in Nashville, TN.

No, CGN is NEW and original!

Most of the prior conflict resolution books have been studying resolving conflict of a SPECIFIC issues (e.g., black and white), they have not tried to, from the experience, distill generalizable, universal CG-seeking lessons/pearls/methodologies that are applicable to conflicts involving OTHER issues.

CGN is DIFFERENT. CGN’s focus is actually NOT the focus of most of the prior conflict resolution works. CGN is focused on a HIGHER level issues, i.e., while CGN will NOT involved in any of the conflicts that it tries to mediate (i.e., CGN will not side with any sides), CGN’s focus is to identify, formulate, and disseminate success CG-seeking principles!

This is analogues to the state of mechanics prior and after Newton.

–          Prior to Newton, people accumulated tons of observations, about force F, and mass and acceleration, in various different kinds of mechanical/physics systems, but, they did not focus on identifying underlying and universal principles;

–          Newton, for the first time in human history, distill the lessons from these vast array of physical observations, and identify the underlying and universal principles: F=ma (the Newton Law)

–          Observations are the foundation for human advancement;

–          But, it is the identification and subsequent application of generalized and underlying principles truly moves humankind forward!

So, all the prior work on CG-seeking and conflict resolution are observations.

But, what CGN is trying to do, is to come up the generalizable and underlying principles, the Newton Law of CG-seeking,no matter what the conflict is!

  • I have lived through extreme polarization (dictatorship) and have suffered, I know what it is like.
  • I love the freedom and mutual respect in America, and I don’t want to see America turned into a country that many immigrants have escaped from! Believe me, either extreme (socialism or capitalism) is bad!
  • I have been a successful medical doctor, and I am bringing the same kind of scientific rigor and discipline, passion and dedication, to the field of building the common ground-seeking methodology.
  • It’s been said that if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. I want to be a part of the solution.
  • My entire life has been dedicated to helping people find common ground, this network is just the latest effort.
  • I love Dr. Wang, he is a good friend and I believe that together we can make a difference!

Yes! Even though it is a huge mountain, indeed, we do have to go ahead and just begin the work, bit by bit, chiseling away, just like the Chinese “Old Man Yu” who labored daily bit by bit chiseling away at the big mountain in front of his house, or the story of having tens of thousands of starfishes on the beach and throwing them back to the ocean one by one. Also, we believe that our CGN work will produce a MULTIPLICATIVE effect resulting in exponential growth of work to find common ground, since our work will INSPIRE many others, and MOTIVATE them to start working in the area! The combined effort of many will be life-changing!

Yes, because each of us has a limited set of information or data. Getting together with people of opposing views will enlarge our own information or data set, allowing us to gain new perspectives.
